What I’m Reading in 2014

Happy New Year! Leaders are readers, so a book should never be too far away. Like you, the list of books I want to read is longer than the time I have to read them! My 2014 reading list has been growing for a while now.

I believe in setting personal goals each year, so that I am growing intentionally. These goals always include books covering certain categories.

Here are the books so far that have made it onto my 2014 reading list: 2014 Reading List

Take the Stairs by Rory Vaden

Necessary Endings by Dr Henry Cloud

$100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau

Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk

Mere Christianity by CS Lewis

Disciple by Bill Clem

Beautiful Mess by Rick McKinley

To Live is Christ to Die is Gain by Matt Chandler

Killing Jesus by Bill O’Reilly

How to be Rich by Andy Stanley

I am still looking for some books in the following areas:

    • Fatherhood/Parenting
    • Leadership Development
    • Communication

  1. Great list so far Paul. I might add YouTility. It’s something I’m reading write now and it’s generating lots of ideas.

  2. I have JJJRH on my list as well. I just finished Platform by Michael Hyatt and it was excellent. I like the notion of the $100 Startup so I think I’ll add that one to my list too. Thanks Paul!

    • Thanks for stopping by Dave. Platform is a great book. It helped me launch this site! Are you a PlatformU member?

      • I am, indeed. I am normally very active in the forums, but December has been very busy and I’ve been unable to keep up my normal activity. But I love it. Such an encouraging community. When I arrived on your site I figured you were connected to Platform in some way, shape or form. Excited to follow what you’re doing.

  3. Great list Paul! I would recommend Greater by Steven Furtick if you haven’t already read it. I’m halfway through and am already recommending it to everyone. Great read.

  4. $100 Startup and JJJRH are incredible books!

If you’re looking for a book on communication, I’d suggest “Communicating For A Change” by Andy Stanley

  5. Great book list! The first month or two’s reading list include: All In by Mark Batterson, 20,000 Days by Robert Smith, Crazy Love by Francis Chan, The In-Between by Jeff Goins, and THe 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

  6. I just finished “To Live Is Christ” by Matt Chandler today. Definitely some good stuff in there. The reviews I’ve read on the O’Reilly book at all pretty sub-par, as he gets a good amount of historical stuff wrong and is pretty reductionistic. Which typically happens with this topic when the author(s) don’t have much pedigree on this topic.

  7. I’ve heard that “Shepherding Your Child’s Heart” is a great parenting book. We’re going to start reading it together (my wife & I) in February. I read Take the Stairs last year…it’s AMAZING. One of my top 5 favorite books.
